Superdrive failed, eating my hardware test disk. Stopping Mac Os From Dismounting Optical Drive Pc I replaced the built-in SuperDrive with a second hard drive. I have an older MacBook Pro (Late 2011) which came with a built-in optical drive. How do I enable a USB SuperDrive in Mac OS X El Capitan on a MacBook Pro? Ask Question Asked 3 years, 11 months ago. I want to get a 15inch MacBook Pro with i5 or i7 and still be able to upgrade the hard drive to an SSD & max out the ram myself. Right now I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13inch i5 2.5 GHz with 256 SSD & 16 gigs of ram with the optical drive. Just this evening, a while ago when I start up my mac, my Time Machine drive, this 'problem' drive, refuse to mount on the DEsktop, Disk U can 'see' it, at the 1st level drive name, the 2nd level (I named it) is grey out, attempting to repair the drive. Is there a command that I can use to remount the drive? Only way I know to re-mount a drive is to disconnect the usb cable from my Mac and reconnect it. ![]() So I have unmounted a usb external hard drive but I went to re-mount it.
